Update: Payson is sound asleep upstairs in his room in our home! This afternoon after reviewing all of Payson's new settings we informed the doctor, (whom I love!!!) that we felt we could handle these settings from home. He asked us a series of questions and answered all the questions we had then agreed to let us take him home! This pulmonologist informed us that we weren't alone and that they were available 24/7 to help us through the next couple of years! It was very reassuring! So, here we sit tonight about to ride out another 12-18 inch snow storm all together! Thanks for your prayers!
Last night we had to take Payson back to the ER at DuPont. All day yesterday, Payson's saturation levels were between 93-95 which aren't the best and usually mean something is going on. He also has this nasty cough that would sometimes sound like a crying cat and by the early evening his secretions were changing colors with some mild retractions in his breathing. So, after suctioning Payson, changing his trach and doing some neb. treatments he still wasn't bringing his numbers up, so I called the doctor. The doctor advised us to do a different treatment if nothing changes with his retractions within 30 minutes we were to head to the ER, so that is exactly what we did.
After a few hours of observation in the ER it was determined that they needed to admit him. Payson isn't sick enough to return to the PICU, so they had to take him to 2A. Yup, new nurses, doctors, rules and way of life. There is no private rooms, the nurses weren't overly friendly (almost desensitized), Payson's room isn't centralized to where nurses will just stop by and they "tried" (tried is the operative word) to put him in a metal crib with a metal top...like a caged monkey. Immediately, I told them there wasn't a chance in hell that he'd be staying in that crib. They were sweet and appeased me quickly! Todd was sweet and decided to stay with Payson until we learned the lay of the land on dreaded 2A. So, that is where we are now...Please be praying as we venture this new unit and as Payson gets better.
Happy 25th birthday, Elijah~
